Clunker Program
The economy grew 3.5% in the third quarter - a sign some say marks the end of the recession. But will it last? Also, the “Cash-For-Clunkers” program ultimately cost taxpayers $24,000 per car. Should they extend the first-time homebuyer tax credit?  Plus, the White House overstated the number of jobs created by the stimulus!

Millionaire Tax
Speaker Pelosi unveiled her health care plan today. The bill dropped the “Cadillac” health plan tax but includes a “millionaire tax”! Plus, IBM is going to put an end to co-pays at the doctor's office as a way to encourage employees to get checkups and stay healthy. But does that really make sense?

Photo-Op?
President Obama made an early morning visit to the Dover Air Force base to honor the return of 18 fallen soldiers killed in Afghanistan this week. But some say the trip was really just a photo op.  Was the White House trying to distract the media from Obama's indecision about sending more troops to Afghanistan?

More Government?
Caterpillar just announced a permanent layoff 2,500 workers.  Didn't President Obama say the stimulus would allow the company to rehire some of its laid-off employees?  Is this just another example of how government involvement only raises the deficit?  Meanwhile, Barney Frank says the Democrats are trying everything they can to increase the role of government!

H1N1
Are you worried about the H1N1 virus?  Are planning to get vaccinated?  A massive shortage of the vaccine is causing a huge delay for those who want the flu shot, and officials are blaming the drug makers.  Was the danger of the flu a bunch of hype, or did the government just completely drop the ball on a very serious health issue?

Enemies List
Just released ratings show CNN has dropped to last place among the four cable news networks. Doesn’t this fly in the face of the White House's war on FOX News and its primetime opinion programs?  Plus, like FOX News, the Chamber of Commerce says the organization has benefited from being a White House target.  Is Obama’s un-Presidential behavior backfiring?

Plus, some homebuyers are suing mortgage providers because they’re not getting the government help Obama promised.

Tom wants to know what you would do if you were getting a 90% pay cut.

Medicare Money
Yesterday, the Senate rejected a measure that would have permanently prevented Medicare payment cuts to doctors! The bill – cleverly excluded from the health care reform bill – would have cost us $247 billion.  What does this measure’s rejection mean for Medicare patients?  Also, are Democrats using tricks to mask the actual cost of their reform plans?

Lone Republican
The Senate Finance Committee passed the health care bill yesterday with the support of Olympia Snowe (R-ME).  Is she becoming the new "maverick" of the GOP?  And will the final bill include Snowe's public option "trigger"?  Why are unions and the health insurance industry against this bill?

Rush and the Rams
NFL officials and some team owners don't want Rush Limbaugh to own the St. Louis Rams because they believe he's made "divisive" comments in the past. What's on The Tom Sullivan Show 10-12-09

Job Creation
Since the beginning of the financial crisis, many on the right have said the increased tax burden is stifling job creation and hindering a recovery.  Even the White House is considering a tax credit for employers who hire new people.  But, is ‘bribing’ employers the answer?  How do we create jobs and jumpstart the economic recovery?

Housing Recovery?
The so-called housing recovery may not be a recovery at all.  Many serious risks still lurk for folks including a growing number of high-end home foreclosures and the expiration of the tax credit for first-time buyers.  Should the government step in again?  Plus, why did the insurance industry flip-flop on the Baucus bill?

Columbus Day
It’s Columbus Day but in many schools, the Italian explorer is no longer considered a hero.  In fact, lesson plans are starting to include discussions about how unfairly he and the early settlers treated Native Americans.  Has political correctness gone too far?  Or is it time for teachers to talk about the darker side of Christopher Columbus?

At the very least they'll question you about your health and take your temperature.  Meanwhile, the WHO says it may take years to lower the H1N1 pandemic alert...

Second Stimulus?
With US unemployment at nearly 10 percent, Democrats are proposing more relief programs to help struggling Americans.  Extending tax credits for first-time home buyers and expanding COBRA benefits for laid off workers are just a few of the proposals on the table.  But with a budget deficit that's tripled in the last year to $1.4 trillion, how will we pay for what looks like a second stimulus package?
