What's on The Tom Sullivan Show 7-17-09

Unsustainable Path
States are trimming programs in all kinds of ways in order to balance their budgets, including cutting back on air conditioning and even trash pickup.   And CBO Dir. Doug Elmendorf says the “federal budget is on an unsustainable path.”   Meanwhile, VP Joe Biden told an AARP town hall meeting “we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt.   Is this why the Treasury Department is looking for a “Humor Czar”?
CIA Secrets
This week we found out the CIA had a secret counter-terrorism program that VP Dick Cheney concealed from Congress for eight years.  The program never got off the ground, but members of Congress say they still should have been made aware of it.  Tom wants to know why we didn’t go ahead with sending a special group of assassins to kill al Qaeda leaders.
Barriers Still Exist
Yesterday, President Obama told the NAACP it was early Black civil rights leaders that paved the way for him, but that racial barriers still exist in the US.  At the same time, CA Sen. Barbara Boxer was insulting the president of the National Black Chamber of Commerce who said she was being racially condescending to him during a hearing on climate change.  PLUS: Steve Forbes talks to Tom about his new book ““Power Ambition Glory.”
